Accessibility

This statement applies to www.ubu.me.uk, run by Northern Life Care Limited (trading as ubu).

We want everyone who visits our website to be able to find information about our care and support services, get in touch with us and apply to work with us – including people who use assistive technology or access the web in different ways.

Using this website

You should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using your browser or device settings
  • navigate the whole website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the latest versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
  • use the website on mobile and tablet devices in portrait or landscape orientation

We’ve also made the text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How we’ve built this website to be accessible

The website is built with accessibility in mind. This includes:

  • a “Skip to content” link so keyboard and screen reader users can bypass the main navigation
  • semantic HTML with clear page landmarks (header, navigation, main content, footer) and a logical heading structure
  • visible focus outlines so keyboard users can see where they are on the page
  • navigation menus, including the mobile menu, that can be opened and used with a keyboard
  • interactive elements such as accordions and tabs that use ARIA attributes to tell assistive technology whether they are open or closed
  • text and background colours chosen to meet WCAG 2.2 AA contrast requirements
  • descriptive alternative text on informative images, with decorative images hidden from screen readers
  • form fields with visible labels and clear error messages
  • a responsive layout that adapts to different screen sizes and zoom levels
  • links that describe where they go, rather than “click here”

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website may not be fully accessible:

  • some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen reader software
  • some embedded content from third parties, such as maps, may not meet the same standards – we don’t control how this content is built

If you find something we’ve missed, please let us know using the details below.

Compliance status

This website aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard. It is partially compliant, due to the issues listed under “How accessible this website is”.

We tested the website on 28th September 2026 using a combination of automated tools, manual keyboard-only testing and screen reader testing with VoiceOver on macOS and iOS. The testing was carried out by Sitecrafter, the website’s developer.

We test new templates and features before they go live, and the website is reviewed for accessibility issues as part of ongoing maintenance.
